Utilization of Holidays
Holidays can be defined as the days for rest, recreation or festivity (joyful events). Everybody needs rest and recreation after work. In our country Nepal, we have holidays on Saturdays and other special days. A long holiday duration is also called vacation. During our holidays or vacations, we do not go to work. We just entertain the days in many ways. During special festivals like Dashain and Tihar, we get long holidays. But very long holidays are also boring. And short holidays are extremely interesting and entertaining.
Normally everybody really enjoys holidays. We feel bored and dull if we don't have any holidays for a long time. That's why we eagerly await for coming holidays after our routined work. We should not waste our holidays as wasting valuable time is not good for our life. Some people sleep all day long or play cards all the time during holidays. It is misuse and waste of precious time in holidays. We can definitely utilize our holidays in a various ways. And we can also entertain holidays in various ways. Like we can visit different and new places. We can learn something from visiting such places. Likewise we can go on picnics with our friends and family members and enjoy the time. Further more, we can watch valuable, meaningful, inspiring and motivating films, play mind developing games, learn driving or cycling, etc. Similarly we can go swimming with our friends or relatives as swimming is the best exercise for the body. In the same way, some people are keen on climbing mountains during holidays. Some people also go on riding horses or fishing. These activities are considered to be useful and helpful for the future as well as for our life.
We can also spend such times by watching some useful and entertaining television programmes and films at the cinema. But some students watch films everyday. It is not good for them. The next way of utilizing holidays is to read story books, novels, stories, poems, newspapers and magazines. In addition, we can visit our relatives and friends to share our happiness and sorrows. People who are fond of gardening can also entertain planting, grafting and looking after the garden.
During special holidays like Dashain and Tihar in Nepal, we can utilize it by celebrating different cultural festivities. During Dashain festival, we can visit temples and other holy places. We worship the gods and goddesses to be blessed by them. Similarly, we can take part in many competition organized by different youth clubs and organizations to promote our creativity. Likewise we can compose poems, write stories or learn singing and dancing during long holidays. In fact, holidays are considered to be utilized by pursuing our hobbies and interests.
It is seen that some people misuse their holidays. They watch bad films all the time, read bad magazines, play cards and drink. Some are also involved in criminal activities also. Some students are also involved in smoking and drugging. Such bad activities not only make us lazy but also destroy our precious life. Some people sleep for a long time. It is undoubtedly harmful for our health. Most of the students forget to do their homework and assignments given by the teachers during long holidays. If we don't utilize our long holidays, we feel really bored all the time during those holidays. So the experts suggest us to aptly use our long holidays.
Finally, what we can conclude is that Holidays are very important nowadays as our life is updated with science and technology. Because of modernization, industrialization, and urbanization; our life has been mechanical. It is a fact that if we work for a long time without holidays, we certainly feel bored and lazy. That is the prominent reason why we need holidays for rest and recreation. Holidays should not be spent doing nothing. It is suggested to utilize it properly.
